Settling in at Wolf Creek Sanctuary. Along with weaving, my current projects include PR and fundraising for the sanctuary. You can see some of these projects below:
Wolf Creek Picture Blog
My personal blog is taking on a Wolf Creek flavor during the time that I’m here.
Wolf Creek High Resolution Photo Gallery
You can grab pictures of the sanctuary and print them for your own personal use.
Wolf Creek PR Fundraiser Website
I’ve gotten permission to raise my own money to use for promoting the sanctuary and our work here. To that end, I’ve set up a site where you can buy t-shirts, totebags, water bottles, paper goods and more, all featuring pictures of the land. Help me spread the word about our work here by buying pretty stuff.
Next Steps
In the next few months I’ll be using my improved personal cash flow to acquire yarn to design and weave a line of products in time for California’s Southern Renaissance Faire.
Artist’s Statement
I grew up a strange boy in the country and spent much of my early life in the forest dreaming of an escape to the city. As a teenager I saw a computer for the first time; it was love at first sight. Now I live in San Francisco with decades of experience as a software developer, and dream of a life in the country.
The world appears to me as a series of tiny details. My eye is always searching for beauty: a pleasing color combination, an interesting texture, an unexpected pattern. When I sit down to design, my goal is to bring one small piece of the world as I see it into focus for others to enjoy.
I think a lot about the relationship between nature, people, and machines. Computers have become our partners in creating a completely new world, and we find ourselves faced with a question at every turn: "Would the task that I'm doing be improved by using a computer?" This theme seems to find its way into all of my art.
About the Current Work
Those familiar with the origins of the computer know that “binary data storage” began with Jacquard’s weaving loom. It used wooden cards with punched holes for the patterns. I am living this history by using a modern computer for my design, but utilizing wooden tools for all aspects of the production. My loom creates patterns using a clockwork dobby mechanism that’s a direct descendant of the original Jacquard loom.
